Thanks to SH for a fun craft idea... lil'veg and I decided to make a "Pins and Buttons" Christmas tree today. Finding the buttons and pins for this project seemed to be quite difficult at the craft stores. But luckily we found everything we needed. Many of the buttons I found in our house. I just had to buy the pins and cone at the craft store.
Just like it seems, we took the pins and stuck them through the buttons in to a Styrofoam tree. If you get lucky enough to find a whole bunch of pins and buttons all the same color, you could probably make a beautiful centerpiece or something. Ours was sort of a goulash of colors, but it did come out quite cute. And with only 2 pin pricks to the veg fingers. Which is pretty good considering.
The kids can certainly do this project with you. Age Appropriate of course and with heavy supervision. I'd also suggest waiting till the age where they can handle concentration (to not get hurt and not have pins all over your floor to be stepped on) This took almost 2 hrs to finish, so if they lose interest early you'll find yourself finishing it up. Probably wouldn't take as long if you had all the right parts. I was searching for items to make due to finish it up. And that used up a lot of my time.
