Every year when I was a kid my Mom would bring home a Pomegranate from the Grocery Store. I only remember them in the Fall and really only one a year. And I don't even remember if I liked them back then. But I do know that every year since, I've bought 1 Pomegranate. Not because I always liked them, but because that is just what you do!!! :-) Hubby doesn't like them and doesn't understand the big deal.. But buying my yearly pomegranate is just like having a pumpkin at Halloween.. Something you do! When the weather gets cold and leaves start changing, I actually look forward to my single Pomegranate to carry on this tradition. The difference now is that I really do like to eat them... I eat every last little delicious seed. When I see the big red ones start to grace the market, I know that it must be that wonderful time of year. And this was that time... I bought my Pomegranate.... And this year I also have learned how good they are for us... The Nutrition information below is from the Pomegranates.org Website. Can you believe there is actually a Pomegranate Website... Who New? There is lots of yummy looking recipes and this No Mess Way to eat them... Wow, wish I would have seen that last night!
So last night Lil'Veg saw my Pomegranate and said "Hey I know what that is? I have one of those in my fruit lesson at school" Naturally I asked him what it was, and he said "It's a Pomegram, you silly"
And guess what? He liked it too. So this year, I had to share my Pomegram (as Veg insists on calling it) and what a fun night it was to search for the most delicious seeds together. I may have to break tradition and buy a second one this year. But one thing is for sure... With Veg knowing about the Pomegranate tradition, there may be one more generation buying them each year.
